HSI Instructor Development Course (IDC)
Blended Learning • Online Skills Training
Take the next step in your emergency care career with our HSI Instructor Development Course, designed for anyone ready to teach lifesaving CPR, AED, and First Aid programs. Whether you’re building a new training business or stepping into the role of workplace training coordinator, this blended learning course provides everything you need to become an effective, confident instructor.
Course Overview
The HSI IDC uses a two-part blended learning format:
- Online Learning Module
Complete the self-paced online portion to build a strong cognitive foundation in instructional methodology, course structure, and HSI training standards. - Virtual Instructor Skills Session
Attend a focused, single-day, hands-on session where you will practice teaching, coaching, guiding skill performance, and managing a class the HSI way. This live component emphasizes real-world instructional skills and prepares you to lead high-quality CPR, AED, and First Aid classes. This session is held on the ZOOM platform.
Together, these components prepare you to confidently teach and evaluate students using the HSI training system.
Who Should Enroll
This course is ideal for:
- Individuals seeking to become HSI Authorized Instructors
- Entrepreneurs launching a CPR/First Aid training company
- Workplace safety officers or newly appointed training coordinators
- Anyone with strong interest in teaching emergency care but no prior instructor experience
Prerequisites
To enroll, candidates must:
- Be at least 17 years old
- Hold a current certification or demonstrate competency in adult, child, and infant CPR, AED, and First Aid at the lay rescuer level.
- there must be two (2) instructor candidates at each physical location for the Zoom course. Each physical location must have an adult and infant manikin for instructor candidates to demonstrate with.
Successful Completion & Next Steps
Completion of the IDC prepares you for instructor authorization, but does not automatically grant instructor status. After completing both the online and in-person portions:
- Instructor candidates must affiliate with an HSI-approved Training Center—or
- Establish their own Training Center
The Training Center will submit your instructor application to HSI for approval.
Once authorized, you will be able to conduct HSI training courses and issue official certification cards.
